The event will be located at Lafayette Avenue and Edgewater Road at Hunts Point Riverside Park, and will run from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The trees below available in the first hour of the event. Please note: reservations are only valid for the first hour of the giveaway, so more trees will be available first come, first served at 12:30 PM.

Serviceberry (Amelanchier canadensis) - 22/25 trees will be available during the first hour of the event first come, first served.
The Serviceberry is a small; ornamental; fruit tree reaching 20'-25' tall and 15'-20' wide, and is easy to maintain. This tree grows at a slow to moderate rate, growing as tall as 10'-20' in 20 years, and reaches its mature height and width after 20-40 years. This tree requires full sun; partial sun/partial shade and moist; well-drained soil.

River Birch (Betula nigra) - 23/25 trees will be available during the first hour of the event first come, first served.
The River Birch is a medium; multi-stemmed tree reaching 40'-50' tall and 25'-35' wide, and is moderately difficult to maintain. This tree grows at a fast rate, growing as tall as 25'-35' in 20 years, and reaches its mature height and width after 30-50 years. This tree requires tree grows in part shade/part sun; full sun and well drained; extended flooding soil.

Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis) - 23/25 trees will be available during the first hour of the event first come, first served.
The Eastern Redbud is a small; ornamental tree reaching 20'-30' tall and 25'-35' wide, and is easy to maintain. This tree grows at a moderate rate, growing as tall as 25'-35' in 20 years, and reaches its mature height and width after 20 years. This tree requires full sun; part sun/part shade and occasionally wet; well-drained soil.

Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida) - 18/25 trees will be available during the first hour of the event first come, first served.
The Flowering Dogwood is a small; ornamental tree reaching 20'-30' tall and 25'-30' wide, and is easy to maintain. This tree grows at a moderate rate, growing as tall as 15'-20' in 20 years, and reaches its mature height and width after 20-30 years. This tree requires full sun; partial sun or partial shade and well-drained soil.



What will I have to agree to if I want a tree?
  • I will plant my tree in the ground and care for my tree according to NYRP guidelines.
  • I will plant my tree in the ground on property I have permission to plant on that is within the 5 boroughs of New York City.
  • I grant NYRP and Sustainable South Bronx rights to take and use photos and videos of me and all parties that come to the event with me, including minors, without compensation.
  • The information I provide can be shared by NYRP with Sustainable South Bronx for follow up about your tree and outreach.
